Mabel Kay Bennett

October 1st, 1948 – February 8th, 2024

Mabel Kay Bennett, age 75 of Quincy, Illinois, formerly of Vermont, Illinois, passed away at 11:14 am on Thursday, February 8th at her home in Quincy. She was born on October 1, 1948 in Macomb, Illinois, the daughter of William and Betty Jean (Wilson) Worthington. On July 6, 1974, Kay married Lloyd Ivan Bennett in Table Grove, Illinois. He preceded her in death on December 10, 2005.

Kay was also preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters, Jo Stick and Vicky Worthington.

Surviving are her son Bryan (Shelly) Swift of Quincy, 3 grandchildren; Levi, Laci and Kobe Swift, 2 step-granddaughters, Ashley and Alyssa Daggett, 2 great-grandsons, Landyn and Lincoln Swift, 1 step-great-grandson Tyson Daggett, 2 sisters, Phyllis Worthington and Pam Weaver and 2 brothers, Jeff (Lucy) Worthington and Mike Worthington.

Kay was retired from AMAX Coal Company in Vermont, Illinois. She lived in Vermont prior to relocating to Quincy to be near her family. She enjoyed playing cards and hosted many pitch games with her beloved family at her dining room table. She loved gardening and was passionate about her flowers and yard.

She loved her grandchildren fiercely and her great grandsons brought her so much joy.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, February 15th at 11:00 a.m. in the Vermont Cemetery. Pastor Steve Castenada will officiate. Memorials may be made in Kay’s memory to the Summum Christian Church in Summum Illinois. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria has been entrusted with arrangements.

I sure enjoyed working with Kay when we both were taking care of Shirley Derry Theyre were a lot of good times She was a very nice,and caring lady Ivan was my dad's boss on Burlington Northern Railroad my dad Benny thought the world of Ivan and Kay.May God Bless You in your time of loss.Cindy Barfield.
