Monte G. Easley

August 6th, 1959 – March 1st, 2024

Monte G. Easley, 64, of Ipava, IL, passed way at 10:47 am on Friday, March 1, 2024 at his home in Ipava. He was born on August 6, 1959 in Rushville, IL, the son of Forrest E. “Gene” and Barbara J. “Jo” (Cramblet) Easley. Monte married Penny Schoonover on November 7, 1981 in Macomb, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are his two daughters; Kaneessa (and Dustin) Stambaugh of Lewistown, IL and Laci (and Lance) Kelley of Macomb, four grandsons; Preston Stambaugh, Gavin Stambaugh, Lawson Kelley and Langston Kelley, two brothers; Kevin (and Marcy) Easley of Ipava and Kelly (and Leslie) Easley of Timewell, IL, two God-sisters; Amanda (and David) Grove of Macomb and Andrea Sears of Ipava, father-in-law; Stanley Schoonover of Colchester, IL, and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law; Judith Schoonover, and he is also united together again with his dog; Sadie Jo “Fuzzy Butt”.

Monte first worked at Skateland in Canton. He went on to work at Dana Corp, later known as Intermet and Wagner, in Havana, IL. He later worked at the Vermont Foundry. For nearly the last twenty years, he worked at NTN Bower in Macomb where he worked as a grinder operator/setup and tooling.

Monte was a proud member of the Ipava Fire Department, where he was a firefighter and EMT, serving as assistant chief. He enjoyed tractor pulls, and in 2004, he helped form the Fulton County Garden Tractor Pullers Association and was involved until 2014. It was at this time that Monte became interested in competitive BBQ smoking and spent the last decade becoming an accomplished competitive BBQ smoker. He enjoyed skating and dancing, especially two stepping and line dancing. Most of all though, he loved spending time with his family and grandkids, or “grandturds”, as he would refer to them as.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at the Berean Christian Church in Ipava. Kelvin Celestine will be officiating. Interment will be in the Ipava Cemetery. Following the service and interment on March 7, a celebration of life will be held at the Ipava American Legion with a meal provided by Bucher Boys BBQ and friends along with the legion. Memorials may be made to the Ipava Park Fund to go towards the tree project.
