Thelma J. Shawgo

December 27th, 1931 – April 4th, 2024

Thelma J. Shawgo, 92, of Wayland, MO, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at 8:46 am on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. She was born on December 27, 1931 in Concord, IL, the daughter of Elmer and Argretta (McDanald) Laughary. Thelma married Max Shawgo on November 19, 1949 in Jacksonville, IL. Max preceded Thelma in death on April 23, 1972.

Also preceding her in death are her parents, two sons; Michael and Mark Shawgo, daughter; Lynnette Parson and her sister; June Nunes.

She is survived by two sons; Max (and Penny) Shawgo, Jr. of Marcelline, IL and Mitchell (and Ginger) Shawgo of Astoria, IL, two daughters; Sandra Haist of Wayland, MO and Janice (and Tony) Shuman, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Thelma retired from Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville, IL as a LPN in 1996.

Thelma loved to travel with her ladies group, crochet and knit, play bingo, spend time with her grandchildren, ride motorcycles, and get her hair done weekly.

All are welcome to meet with Thelma’s family from 2 to 2:30 pm on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Burial in the Summum Cemetery will immediately follow on Sunday, April 7.
