Phyllis Jean Farr Peak

July 8th, 1933 – May 8th, 2024

Phyllis Jean Farr Peak, 90, of Rushville, IL, passed away at 8:15 am on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at The Arbors in Quincy, IL. She was born on July 8, 1933 in McDonough County, IL, the youngest daughter of Robert Marshall and Helen Frances (Justus) Farr. Her family resided in Vermont, IL until she was 4 years of age. They then moved to a farm in Fulton County, where she attended a one-room schoolhouse, named Farr School, for six years.

They then moved to Astoria where she attended and graduated from Astoria High School and was involved in sports and music.

She married Jack Fred Peak on June 13, 1951 in Astoria. Jack preceded Phyllis in death on July 9, 2010.

Phyllis is survived by her and Jack’s six children; Brenda Shelts of Camden, IL, Brian (and Stacy) Peak of Quincy, Stephanie (and Tim) Briney of Rushville, IL, Lori (and Gareld) Ruth of Rushville, Angie (and Mike, Jr.) Dyche of Rushville, and Stacie Kuta of St. Charles, IL, 12 grandchildren; Jennifer (and Melvin) Briney, Jeff (and Jen) Shelts, Shannon (and Mike) Seneczko, Amber (and Jess) Range, Alexis (and Michael) Murk, Andria (and Gavin) Steiger, Tara (and Kyle) Lewis, Tanya (and Chad) Esther, Kaitlyn (and Justin) Bagley, Keaton (and Ellie) Dyche, Natalie Kuta, and Jason Kuta, 25 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and one niece, Kim (and Keith) Diegel of Pekin, IL.

She is also preceded by her parents, son-in-law; Larry Shelts and one sister; Marian Hoffman.

Phyllis was a member of the Camden Methodist Church, fifty-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member and past president of Rushville Business and Professional Women.

She was a legal secretary for Richard Stephens, attorney, in Macomb, IL for seven years. She retired in 2015 after working for Charles A. Burton in Rushville.

Services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Charla Meyers will be officiating. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Interment will be in the Rushville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Rushville Public Library or Snacks for Students in Rushville, IL.
