Betty J. Stambaugh

July 1st, 1925 – May 19th, 2024

Betty J. Stambaugh, 98, of Mt. Sterling, formerly of Astoria, passed away at 8:47 am on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at Mt. Sterling Health & Rehab Center in Mt. Sterling, IL. She was born on July 1, 1925 in McDonough County, IL, the daughter of Jesse and Gladys (Hawkins) Porter. Betty married Howard Stambaugh on October 9, 1948 in Rushville, IL. Howard preceded Betty in death on April 9, 2014.

Also preceding her in death are her parents and siblings.

She is survived by two nieces, Barbara (and Scott) Harris of Browning, IL and Karen (and Gary Smith) Lowe of Glasford, IL, and two nephews, Aaron (and Laura) Winner of Rushville, IL and Alvin (and Hannah Ester) Winner of Rushville, IL.

Betty was a custodian at Browning Grade School for 35 years, retiring in 1985. She resided with Russell and Florine Johnson and later Orville and Irene Johnson while working on their farms.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 10th at the Sheldons Grove Cemetery in Sheldons Grove, Illinois. Reverend Robert Greene will officiate. Memorials may be made to Browning Senior Center in Browning, IL.
