Fred A. Carlton
May 5th, 1942 – August 22nd, 2024
Fred A. Carlton, age 82 of Astoria, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 9:40 p.m. at his home. He was born on May 5, 1942 in Peoria, Illinois, the son of Robert and Bessie (Wamsley) Carlton. On July 3, 1987, Fred married Mary Standley in Meredosia, Illinois. She preceded him in death on October 30, 2020.
Fred was also preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Lynn Moore and 8 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his son Chris (and Rosa Fink) Carlton of Pekin, Illinois, his step-son Bill (and Shannon) Hawkshaw of Rochester, Illinois, his step-daughter Amanda (and Chris) Downing of Concord, North Carolina, ten grandchildren; Nick (and Natalie) Carlton, Zachary (and Jaci) Carlton, Justin (and Nora) Cockrell, Destiny Carlton, Wesley (and Carolina) Cockrell, Dillon Cockrell, Anthony Metcalf, Shelby Hawkshaw, Brennan Hawkshaw, and Alyssa Downing and seven great-grandchildren
Fred was a truck driver and member of the Teamster’s Union. He also was a member of the Hickory-Kerton Fire Department and the Hickory-Kerton Township Board.
He was the owner and operator of Bear’s Den in Lomax, Illinois.
Fred loved his cat “Little Bit”, corvettes, John Deere tractors, antiques and the Alabama Crimson Tide football team.
Interment was in the Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria, Illinois and a Celebration of Fred’s Life will be held at a later date. Shawgo Memorial Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
