Eldon L. Bucy
October 30th, 1927 – November 8th, 2024
Eldon Lee Bucy, age 97 of Macomb, Illinois, formerly of Vermont, Illinois, passed away at 5:06 pm Friday, November 8, 2024 at Wesley Village in Macomb, Illinois. He was born on October 30, 1927 in Vermont, a son of John William and Erma (Horner) Bucy. On November 18, 1950, Eldon married Bertha A. Pepmeyer at Camp Stewart, Georgia. Bertha preceded Eldon in death on May 27, 2023.
He was an Army veteran, serving in occupied Japan and also for the Illinois National Guard.
Eldon was a farmer. He also worked at Pioneer Seeds and at the Physical Plant at Western Illinois University. He was a member of the Vermont American Legion, where he served as Past Commander, a member of the Illinois Farm Bureau and the Vermont United Methodist Church.
He is survived by two sons; Jim (Judy Burnette) Bucy of Springfield, Illinois and Mike (Barb) Bucy of South Jacksonville, Illinois, one daughter Diana (and the late Jim) Martin of Matthews, North Carolina, six grandchildren; Katie (Jeff) Stewart, Allie (Drew) Vining, Mary (Dan) Clarin, Matt (Nicole) Martin, Heather (Conor) Griffin and Craig (Kary) Bucy, fourteen great-grandchildren; Brianna, Fiona, Leah, Louisa, Oliver, Anderson, Lucy, Henry, Charlie, Jackson, Madeline, Elodie, Braden and Ruby, sister Betty Ricketts of Chandler, Arizona and sister-in-law Carol Pace of Vermont, Illinois.
Along with his wife, Eldon was also preceded in death by his grandson Benjamin (surviving wife Kate) Martin, siblings Mary June McCormick, Otis Bucy, Wayne Bucy, Ansel Bucy, Henry Bucy, Clair Bucy, John Bucy and George Bucy and half-siblings Dorothy Hughes, Vera Brillhart, Lela Mendenhall, Boyd Bucy, Ernest Bucy and Charles Bucy.
Services for Eldon will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, Illinois. Reverend Robert Green will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Vermont Cemetery with full military rites provided by the Vermont American Legion. Memorials in memory of Eldon may be made to Wesley Village in Macomb, Illinois or the Vermont American Legion. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria has been entrusted with arrangements.

I will always remember him as a pillar of the Vermont United Methodist Church. If the doors were opened for any function, he was there. His dedication to his faith was very strong. He will be missed. Thinking of all of you, and lifting prayers. Lynn Bubb
