Mary L. Horwedel
April 26th, 1933 – November 13th, 2024
Mary L. Horwedel, 91, of Peoria, formerly of Vermont, Illinois, passed away at 6:35 am on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at Bickford of Peoria, Illinois. She was born on April 26, 1933 in Peoria, the daughter of Holly and Lola (Watkins) Green. Mary married Harold Horwedel on March 6, 1955 in Peoria Heights, IL. Harold preceded Mary in death on March 18, 2015.
Also preceding Mary in death are her parents, one daughter; Linda Miller, one son; Steve Horwedel, two brothers; Holly Green Jr. and John Green, and two infant sisters.
Survivors include one daughter; Lori (and Bruce) McCreight of Brimfield, Illinois, one son-in-law; Ken Miller of Coal City, Illinois, one daughter-in-law; Donna Horwedel of Table Grove, Illinois, eight grandchildren; Michael (and Caitlynne) Miller, Megan (and Matt) McIlvane, Cassandra (and Nick Wright) Schoonover, Kris Horwedel, Brittany Horwedel, Shannon (and Cedric) Volkmer, Grant (and Tatyana) McCreight and Morgan (and Brent) Stong, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Mary was a farm wife and worked as a bookkeeper at FS.
She was a member of the Vermont Christian Church and PEO Sisterhood Chapter C. She enjoyed her “card club” both in Ipava, Illinois and Macomb, Illinois, square dancing and traveling. Mary loved her family and hosting dinners at the farm.
Services will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at the Vermont Christian Church in Vermont, Illinois. Mike Ulmer will be officiating. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Interment will be in the Vermont Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Vermont Christian Church.

We used to gather together with the Horwedel family and other families at the army group that went to Korea together.Dad would at times take airplane rides with Harold.i enjoyed there zip line in their back yard.Scott Archer

Lori and the whole family I’m so sorry for your loss. I remember at 16 Harold had to come pull Pat Demott and I out of a snow drift. I also remember ice scaling and snow riding at their home. I always liked Mary and Harold. They were good people. Mary will be missed. Judy Wilson
