Dean C. Malott

September 18th, 1944 – December 11th, 2024

Dean C. Malott, age 80 of rural Table Grove, Illinois, passed away at 9:02 am Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at his home. He was born on September 18, 1944 in McDonough County, a son of John Lawrence and Nedra (Abernathy) Malott. He married Verla Steele on June 27, 1965 in Table Grove. She survives.

Also surviving are his daughter, Tami (and Frank) Curley, 3 grandchildren; Dustin (and Rachel) Curley, Meshiah Curley and Pairn Sheslay "Honey" Floyd, 2 great-grandchildren, Oliver and Carson Curley, his sister Shirley (and Larry) Roberts and numerous special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Blane "Blaner" Curley and his brother Dale Malott.

He was an Army veteran, serving from 1968 to 1970 in the Vietnam War with a rank of Sergeant.

Dean loved his country and his family as well. He never knew a stranger and was a friend to everyone. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was strong willed and hard headed, but he loved with his whole heart.

He worked for International Harvester for 18 and 1/2 years, then retired from Pioneer Hybrid in Good Hope, Illinois. He was a member of the Ipava American Legion and the VFW in Bushnell, Illinois.

A Celebration Of Life will be held on Saturday, December 14th at 1:00 p.m. at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Mike Ulmer will officiate. Visitation will take place from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Saturday at the funeral home. Military rites will be provided by the Ipava American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dean's memory may be made to the Table Grove Fire Department or the Tunnels To Towers Foundation.

I worked with Dean at Pioneer for many years-he was quite the jokester-we stacked bags together for one whole winter and that's when I got to know him well. He teased me alot because I was just a green farm boy but we had alot of fun that winter. I will never forget him. Rest in Peace, Dean. Sorry for your loss, Verla, Alan Caldwell

Verla…cannot express our shock & how sad we r to hear of Dean’s passing…can only imagine the void it leaves for u & your family…our Malott/Shawgo reunion will feel his absence immensely as he ‘lit’ the room up with his presence & smile..actually these last 20 years, we felt he was closer than 1st cousin to Mom…Denny & I have another funeral in SC the same day…but we will be there in heart & hope to see you next time we r back in IL…Susie & Denny Thomson

I was privileged to work along side Dean and also as his supervisor in field work at Pioneer. He always had a positive attitude and kept me positive during difficult times. My son also worked with him for a couple of summers. We are sorry for his passing and will miss always seeing his smile which to me was his trademark and legacy.

Met Dean in Vietnam….he taught me the ropes on how to survive. He became a forever friend. Knew Dean a little bit when I was growing up always a super friendly guy always heard nothing but great things about him. 5 years ago my girls and I started hunting the property next to his. He was always the friendliest person to visit with. Many times driving down the dead end road past his house he would be outside always giving us a big smile and friendly wave. As a matter of fact just last weekend we both gave each other a big wave and smile. I always told my girls thats one awesome human right there. Great person and served his country!
