Charles William "C.W." Trone, Sr.

January 22nd, 1934 – January 7th, 2025

Charles W. “C.W.” Trone, Sr., 90, of Rushville, IL, passed away at 8:37 am on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at his home. He was born on January 22, 1934 in Astoria, IL, the son of Loren and Mary Etta (Leonard) Trone. C.W. married Agnes Holmes on June 22, 1955 in Germany. Agnes preceded C.W. in death on January 26, 1995.

Also preceding C.W. in death are his parents, son-in-law Al Shembarger, and three sisters, Lorene Sullivan, Freda Kettering-Tatman and Marifrances Ralston.

He is survived by two sons; Charles W. (and Jill) Trone, Jr. of Beardstown, IL and Kevin Trone of Astoria, IL, one daughter; Teresa Shembarger of Pleasant Plains, IL, seven grandchildren; Beth, Chuck, Chris, Brittany, Emma, Jessica, and Tempest, ten great-grandchildren, his companion, Diane Dean of Astoria, IL, two nephews and two brother-in-laws.

C.W. served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1956 with a rank of Specialist 2.

C.W. was a jack of all trades. He farmed, was a machinist at L and N Industries in Rushville, worked for Larry Derry’s Shop in Astoria, worked for the Railroad and at numerous service stations in Astoria, including Bair and Butler’s 66 on Broadway.

He was a member of the VFW and Astoria American Legion Post #25. He was also a member of the NRA.
C.W. enjoyed hunting and fishing, spending time with his family and working on things, always trying to get them fixed.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Shawgo memorial Home in Astoria. Reverend Fred Fritz will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 10th from 5-7 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery with military rites provided by the Astoria American Legion Post #25. Memorials in C.W.’s memory may be made to Serenity Point Hospice of Canton, IL.

Your dad was such an amazing man to so many. Definitely a jack of all trades. I loved him so much. He taught me how to play dominoes and I always made sure to go visit him when I traveled back home. I will miss you so much and cherish our time together. RIP CW. You are in God’s hands now. 🙏🙏

Sending heartfelt condolences. CW and my mom, Mary Ellen were first cousins and he was good friend with my dad, Carroll back in the 50's. He was the matchmaker who got them together over 60 yrs ago. My mom's birthday was also 2 days after CW's and they were sure to call one another every year to catch up.
