Marjorie J. Cox

July 6th, 1931 – January 26th, 2025

Marjorie Jean Negley Cox was born July 6, 1931 in Canton, IL. She passed away January 26, 2025 in Macomb, IL. Marjorie was the second daughter of Martin Angle and Mary Wilkerson Negley. She was a happy child and adored going with her dad to do the chores and care for the horses.

In 1936 her family moved to a farm just south of Table Grove and lived there until her father died in 1942. Then, they moved to Table Grove. She had 3 sisters, Martha, Marilyn, and Margaret. Her mother remarried George Clemens, and then she gained a step brother, Richard Clemens. Marge graduated from VIT High School in 1949.

On September 30, 1949 she married Travis Henry Cox. Marge is survived by her son Kenneth Lee (and Rebecca) Cox and her daughter Sandra Marie (and Kenneth) Riddle. Marge had six grandchildren; Travis (and Sara) Felker, Jessica Felker, Desi Wren, Ashley Ptak, Sara Riddle and Clarissa (and Justin) Ambrose, and five great-grandchildren; Anders Wren, Claire Felker, Quinn Felker, Lauren Ambrose and Levi Ambrose.

Marge believed in God and Jesus Christ as her Savior. She worked as a receptionist, sales clerk and postal clerk from which she retired. She was active in the Vermont Christian Church, Vermont Auxiliary, and PEO. After she moved to Macomb she enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Villas of Grand Prairie and being a part of the Vermont Breakfast Club. Her first love was her family, she loved her husband of 63 years and being a “Mom, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Travis, daughter, Marcella, son-in-law Laurence, two sisters, Martha Burns and Margaret Self, three infant granddaughters and one Great-Granddaughter, Erin.

Services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at the Vermont Christian Church. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service on Saturday, February 1. Interment will be in the Vermont Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Vermont Christian Church or MDH Hospice.

Once in a great while, you meet someone you "click" with, someone you greatly admire. Marge was that lovely lady. We shared the love of horses and our faith. She was a grand lady who I respected completely. She will be missed, but rest assured that we know she is in the arms of Jesus. Marge was such a dear friend for several years to our mom. Us girls got to know Marge through Breakfast Club & her time at Grand Prairie and just loved visiting with her. Marge was a lovely lady.

The Cox family and the Marshall family were neighbors from the 1800s till Marge sold the farm house. She was such a sweet person.
