William "Bill" Walter Danner
November 4th, 1937 – February 8th, 2025
William “Bill” Walter Danner, 87, of Astoria, IL, passed away at 7:44 pm on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Graham Hospital Emergency Room in Canton, IL. He was born to Hugh and Florence (Wisecup) Danner on November 4, 1937 at home. He would live there his entire life. Bill married Marilyn J. “Peg” Foutch on July 14, 1973 in Astoria. Peg preceded Bill in death on August 31, 2015.
He is also preceded in death by his brother; Gerald Danner, two sister-in-laws; Jo Ann Danner and Dee Danner, one brother-in-law, Donald Schisler, one niece; Dana Jo and one nephew; Monte.
He is survived by his “bonus” children; Linda (and Roger) Schneider of Astoria, James “Jim” (and Carolyn) Foutch of Havana, IL and Teresa (and Rob) Hamm of Astoria, his beloved grandchildren; Joshua Easley, Candice Sours, Dallas Hamm, David Simpson, Tara Bush, Doug Poppenhager and Tara Scheland, great-grandchildren; Drew, Keaton, Adeline, Breleigh, Brittany, Cody and Violet, one great-great-granddaughter; Olivia, brother; Wayne Danner of Atlanta, GA, sister; Lueann Schisler of Macon, MO, nieces and nephews; Denise, Robin, Valery, Bob, Jimmy and Wayne Jr.
He retired from Caterpillar after thirty plus years.
Bill served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963, serving in Korea as an Engineer Equipment Repairman.
Bill was a member of the Moose Lodge in Rushville, IL, Illinois Valley Shriners Club, Fulton County Trustees Township Board, Eastern Star, Astoria American Legion Post 25, Fulton County Housing Authority Board, and was a Fulton County 911 Organizer. He was also a fifty-year member of the Vermont Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rites. He was also a member of the Astoria Christian Church where he served on the board and was a deacon for several years.
Bill loved his grandkids and great-grandkids, horseback riding, fishing, watching westerns and four-wheeling. He also loved cooking for everyone and made a mean chili and beef heart and dressing. Bill was a great husband, dad and grandpa. He was the type of person that when he spoke, you listened.
Services will be held at 11 am on Friday, February 14, 2025 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Matthew Thiner will be officiating. A visitation will take place from 9 to 11 am on Friday morning. Masonic rites will be provided by the Vermont Masonic Lodge. Military Rites will be provided by the Astoria American Legion Post#25. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery. Memorials in Bill’s memory may be left to the Astoria American Legion or the Vermont Masonic Lodge.
