Gary M. Hulett

July 16th, 1947 – April 15th, 2025

Gary M. Hulett, 77, of Astoria, IL, passed away at 6:57 am on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IL. He was born on Wednesday, July 16, 1947 in Monmouth, IL, the son of Martin and Ruth (Bollinger) Hulett. Gary married Rosemary Plank on May 27, 1967 in Browning, IL. She survives.

Also surviving is his son; Marty (and Durinda) Hulett of Astoria, and two grandchildren; Katie (and Shane) Kepler and Garrett (and fiancé, Audrey Briggs) Hulett.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Gary was a jack of all trades and had various occupations throughout his life, including landscaping, fabricating and automobile mechanical and body work. In 1991, he began working with his son Marty at H & S Car Care in Astoria, later becoming known as Hulett Auto Body. Gary owned and operated Hulett Auto Body until its closing in 2019.

He was a member of the Vermont Masonic Lodge and the Astoria Christian Church. Gary enjoyed landscaping, being outside, motorcycles, and watching boxing, especially watching Sugar Ray Leonard while having a coke and peanuts.

Services will be held at 11 am on Friday, April 18, 2025 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Matthew Thiner will be officiating. A visitation will take place from 9 to 11 am on Friday, April 18 before the service. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad or the Astoria Christian Church.
