Robert Lee "Jake" McCombs

January 12th, 1934 – April 18th, 2025

Robert L. “Jake” McCombs, age 91 of Astoria, Illinois, passed away at 10:30 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2025 at Rushville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rushville, Illinois. He was born on January 12, 1934 in Bader, Illinois, the son of Edward and Alma (Trone) McCombs. Jake married Phylis Hamm on December 17, 1951 in Palmyra, Missouri. She preceded him in death on July 25, 2017.

Jake was also preceded in death by one grandson, Dirke McCombs, brother Lawrence Edward McCombs, sister Erma Easley and his parents.

Surviving are his three children, Barb (Wayne) Miller of Astoria, Illinois, Craig (Nancy) McCombs of Middlebrook, Missouri and Randy (Janie) McCombs of Browning, Illinois, four grandchildren; JR McCombs, Jake McCombs, Randy McCombs, Jr. and Kayla McCombs and several great-grandchildren.

Jake was the owner and operator of Broadway Super Service in Astoria for over 67 years. He enjoyed restoring older cars and working on his cars, other peoples cars and anything that had a motor.

He was a member of the National Street Rod Association.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service for Jake and Phylis will be held on Saturday, May 3rd at 1:00 pm at the Sheldons Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad.
