Stephen W. Dean
December 5th, 1949 – May 1st, 2025
Stephen W. Dean, 75, of Astoria, IL, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at his home. He
was born on Monday, December 5, 1949, in Macomb, IL, the son of William “Bill” and Margaret
(Dallman) Dean. Stephen married Carol A. Christ on March 25, 1977, in Galesburg, IL. She
survives.
He is also survived by his three daughters; Melissa (Andrew) Williams of Inman, SC, Lacy
(William “Bill”) Sego of Canton, IL and Courtney Dean of Palm Harbor, FL, five grandchildren;
Andrew “Drew” (Elizabeth) Williams, Ella Williams, Wyatt Sego, Garrett Sego and William “Will”
Sego, sister; Kathryn (Bob) Bridges of Astoria, IL, brother; Scott (Brenda) Dean of Astoria, IL, and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister; Deanna Jo Dean and step-father; Willard France.
Stephen attended Adams State College in Alamosa, CO where he earned his bachelor’s degree
in business. He was Office Supervisor at Public Finance before becoming the Business Office
Manager at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, IL. He was proud of his heritage, and He loved to
farm and did so for over fifty years.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Havana, IL, and the Rushville Saddle Club.
Steve enjoyed traveling, camping, and horseback riding and loved playing cards with friends and
family.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 10 th at 10:30 am at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria,
Illinois. Pastor Micah Garnett will officiate. Visitation will take place from 9:00 until 10:30 prior to the service. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery. Memorials in Steve’s memory may be given to the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad.
