Mary Lou Scrogum

February 4th, 1938 – July 4th, 2026

Mary Lou Scrogum, 88, of Springfield, IL, formerly of Astoria, IL, passed away at 1:15 pm on Saturday, July 4, 2026 at the Springfield Suites Rehab and Nursing. She was born on Friday, February 4, 1938 in Rushville, IL, the daughter of Orley and Martha (Cable) Walters. Mary Lou married Eldon Scrogum on February 28, 1960 in Springfield, IL. Eldon preceded Mary Lou in death on December 23, 2003.

She is also preceded in death by her step-son; Terry Scrogum and life-partner; Rodney “Rusty” Belville.

She is survived by several family members, friends and the Belville family.

Mary Lou worked for DCFS. She enjoyed getting together with the Red Hat Ladies. She also enjoyed playing the piano, hand painting, sewing, and going out to eat with family and friends. She was known as being a good cook and her impressive paperweight collection. One of her biggest passions was traveling and she loved to travel with both Eldon and Rusty.

Services will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Dave Johnson will be officiating. A visitation with family and friends will take place one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad or Toys For Tots.

Mary Lou and I met worked together and continued our friendship for 62 yrs. I will miss our text calls. I regret I will be unable to attend services as I don't drive anymore at 93. Rita Kofoed.

Mary Lou was the best neighbor anyone could ask for! We enjoyed Eldon and later Rusty living behind us. We are unable to attend her funeral service, but she is in our hearts. Many prayers from Kim and Rick Lawrence.🙏🏼❤️‍🩹

We met Mary Lou over 20 years ago when we moved 3 houses down from her. She was a great neighbor and friend. She will be missed very much. Rest in heavenly peace, sweet lady. Bret & Lisa Todd
