Daniel A. Mapes

March 4th, 1936 – August 20th, 2026

Daniel A. Mapes, age 90 of Kilbourne, IL, passed away at 8:27 a.m. Thursday, August 20, 2026 at his home. He was born on March 4, 1936 in Morgan County, IL, the son of Marvin and Etta Mae (Spears) Mapes. He married Carrol E. Hamblin on January 3, 1958 in Kilbourne. She preceded him in death on August 25, 2021.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, sister Glenna Middleton and brother Harold Mapes.

Daniel is survived by five children; Charlene (Phillip) Davis of Kilbourne, Myron (Kristin) Mapes of Riverton, IL, Ayron (Melanie) Mapes of Snowflake, AZ, Ryan (Susan) Mapes of Lyndon, IL, and Bryan (Terri) Mapes of Havana, IL, twelve grandchildren; Casey (Jason) Mapes, Jacob Mapes, Zachary (Ashley) Mapes, Trevor Mapes, Samantha (Allen) Jensen, Kirsten (Brian) Engelkens, Sarah Mapes, Krysta (Hezekiah) Mapes-Kemp, Erica Mapes, Brandon (Jamie) Shooltz, Dorrien Mapes and Trystan Davis, and eleven great-grandchildren; Bailey, Anna, Noah, Bentley, Mavis, Freyja, Aerith, Atticus, Dezman, Trinity, Naomi, and one on the way and one sister-in-law Carolyn Mapes.

Daniel worked as an applicator for KIFCO and FS for over 30 years, retiring in 1998. He also did welding for the companies.

He was a member of the Mt. Zion Southern Baptist Church in Kilbourne where he served as a trustee and greeter for the Sunday school program for many years. He was a former member of the Kilbourne Township Board. At the time of his passing,
Daniel was the oldest living resident in Kilbourne. He was a 1954 graduate of Astoria High School

Daniel never knew a stranger. He loved to visit with anyone and enjoyed taking his family camping, fishing and hunting. He was always willing to lend a hand where needed and enjoyed tinkering about fixing things.

Services will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at 2:00 pm at the Mt. Zion Southern Baptist Church in Kilbourne. Pastor Randy Wilson will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the services. Interment will take place at the Mt. Zion Southern Baptist Cemetery. Memorials in Daniel’s memory may be given to the church. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria has been entrusted with arrangements.
