Barbara E. Walters
January 16th, 1926 – July 18th, 2015
Barbara E. Walters, age 89 of Macomb, IL, formerly of Astoria, passed away at 5:35 pm on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Bickford Cottage in Macomb. She was born on January 16, 1926 in Pleasant Twp., Fulton Co., IL, the daughter of Arthur Theodore and Frances Elizabeth (Groff) Wickert. Barbara married Robert Lyle Parry on January 17, 1942 in Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 18, 1968. She then married Robert Wayne Walters on May 5, 1969 in Ipava. He preceded her in death on January 23, 2003.
She was also preceded in death by her step-grandson Erik Bucher, her brothers Philip and Don Wickert, and her sister Kathleen Haacke.
Barbara is survived by her daughter Linda (and Gail Scott) Shaw of Macomb, her sons, Danny (and Lisa) Parry and Jimmy Parry, both of Ipava, three grandchildren, Monica (and Jeff) Braun, Neisha Shaw, and Sonja (and Josh) Peterson, and eight great-grandchildren.
Barbara worked at Astoria Fiber Steel for several years. She was co-owner of Bob's Dairy Dipper in Astoria for many years.
She was a charter member of the Berean Christian Church in Ipava. She attended the Ipava Christian Church, the Astoria Christian Church, and the Woodland Church of the Brethren and was currently a member of the Maple Avenue Christian Church in Macomb.
She was a member of the Ipava and Astoria American Legion Auxiliaries since the 1940's. She was a founder of the Bernadotte Public Park and charter member of the Astoria Saddle Club. She was a founding member of the Rushville Rushettes women's fast pitch softball team, a member of the Rushville Golf League, Wee-Ma-Tuk Hills Golf Club, Lakeland City Country Club, Lakeland, FL, the Western Illinois Women's Tuesday Morning League, the Pythian Sisters Lodge, World Vision of India, and AARP.
Barbara donated to the Lewistown Fulton County Museum 24 antique pieces of the Bob Walter's family. She did paintings of Christ for 10 community churches. She was a gifted amateur artist and was past grand champion of the Fulton County Art Show.
She loved animals and sports, but especially loved her family most of all.
Services will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Doug Krukewitt will officiate. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the services on Tuesday. Interment will be in the Ipava Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Midwest Affiliate in Peoria or the Shriners Children's Hospital.
