About Shawgo Memorial Home
A Familiar Family When You Need One Most
At Shawgo Memorial Home, our goal is to provide comfort and guidance during life’s most difficult moments.
For four generations, families throughout Astoria and the surrounding communities have turned to Shawgo Memorial Home for compassionate care during some of life’s most difficult moments. Since Carl and Olive Shawgo founded the funeral home in 1935, our family has remained committed to helping other families honor the people they love with dignity, warmth and personal attention.
We understand that every loss is different. Some families arrive knowing exactly what their loved one wanted, while others are unsure where to begin. Wherever you are, we will listen, answer your questions and gently guide you through each decision. From the first phone call through the service and final arrangements, you will work with people who know this community and care deeply about serving it.
Our family’s story has continued across four generations, but our purpose remains the same: to ease your burden and help you create a meaningful tribute that feels right for your family.

Testimonials
Thank you for helping me bring my baby home!!! I lost my baby and the hospital was just going to discard as medical waste. They said the only way I could get my baby back was someone with a funeral director license came to pick up. I called Shawgo because they were the closest to me and they were more than willing to help. They gave me the option for burial or cremation. Filled the death certificate since hospital didn’t. They went above and beyond and I’m so thankful for them.
Went here to a nice service for my aunt. Facilities are nice but the seating arrangement was a little odd.
When my husband died they made all the efforts for Rex to be cremated as he wanted. I felt so safe and cared for plus loved. They are great people and show so much love for those grieving for their departed loved one. All the care I got I highly recommend because they did a great act of love and care that’s genuine and real.
The service was excellent. Nice parking lot and funeral home layout. I would have given 5 stars if coffee was available to the family. God rest your soul Myrna Phillips.+
The Shawgo family does a great job at making you feel comfort in a sad situation.
Great small town service with a professional and personal feel.
Made a difficult time much easier on the family. Caring and attentive staff.
Questions Are Natural. We’re Here to Help.
This is a question of choice. We believe that seeing the deceased aids in the mourning process and helps families and friends recognize that a death has occurred. This can be done privately, whether a traditional service or memorial service has been selected.
Embalming is required by us if the deceased is to remain in our funeral home for a period of eight or more hours. We do not have “coolers” to slow the decomposition process. This is why we have this requirement.
Embalming is performed to slow the decomposition of the body so that a funeral service can be conducted.
Choosing a family-owned memorial home means working directly with people who live in and care about the community they serve. At Shawgo Memorial Home, decisions are made locally and every family receives personal attention from people who understand the importance of honoring each life with care, dignity and respect.
